Chocolate Avocado Thickshake
adapted from Chocolate Avocado Pudding
1 ripe avocado
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/4 cup cocoa powder
1/4 cup powdered sugar (the original recipe called for maple syrup but I had none)
1 ripe banana (this is my own addition, as I thought it needed more flavour. Maple syrup probably would have provided that flavour though)
1 1/2 cups milk
So like all other smoothies this is pretty simple.
Place all of the ingredients in a blender or in a large jug if you are using a hand blender. If you want an icy smoothie use frozen banana and avocado instead of fresh.
Blend until smooth.
Divide into two glasses and drink.

Super interesting smoothie! I'm glad you decided to find a recipe to make :) I have seen smoothie and pudding recipes that use avocado in the past but never tried one. Can you taste the avocado?
ReplyDeleteI could taste the avocado at first, that's why I added the banana. If you have a strong tasting sweetener like maple syrup I reckon you wouldn't taste the avocado at all.
DeleteLove this! I've been making chocolate avocado pudding for my kids and they love it. This will be a really nice alternative. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteI never would have thought to put avocado in a smoothie--I bet it's so creamy! I'm CCC #5 :)
ReplyDeleteThis looks amazing! Avocado + Chocolate...how could it be wrong? :) I'm CCC #43!
ReplyDeleteI would have never thought to put avocado in a shake/smoothie! I bet it does make it super creamy - not to mention good for you! I'm down with chocolate anything! Consider this pinned :)
ReplyDeleteI need to try avocadoes in my smoothie, haven't attempted that yet. I have vowed to make smoothies once a day all summer long, breakfast or a dinner substitute on hot summer days and I can't wait to try ALL of the Crazy Cooking Challenge recipes from this month. Thanks so much for participating.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great and deceivingly healthy smoothie! Love that it has avocado!

What a great idea! I've had avocado brownies before and you wouldn't even know they were in there.
ReplyDeleteThis looks great, and I think the banana and the powdered sugar was a much better choice than the maple syrup!
ReplyDeleteI wish I could find avocados so cheap. This sounds like a very interesting recipe...maybe I could sneak in the avocado and my husband wouldn't know...haha. Please visit my smoothie (Blueberry Maple Oatmeal Smoothie #49).
ReplyDeleteI have been wanting to try a chocolate avocado recipe. This looks great!! Yum!! I'm going to try this one out when I get home from work today. This is #11 saying hi!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea to rework the recipe into a smoothie and one that looks and sounds delicious.
ReplyDeleteIf you haven't already, I'd love for you to check out my CCC entry: Mango Melon Banana & Chia Smoothie.
